How To Keep Indoor Plants Alive In Winter

Are you concerned about your indoor greenery during winter? No worries! We’ve got some great tips to keep your plants warm and healthy in the colder months. Say goodbye to winter blues for your leafy friends! 🌿

1. Pay attention to sunlight

Okay, sunlight might be scarce, but let’s make the most of what we’ve got! We always recommend keeping your plants directly in front of a window.  And for those that crave even more light, consider bringing in some artificial grow lights for a sun-kissed vibe.

2. Cut back on watering

Less sunlight means less thirst for our plants. Check before you water – poke your finger into the soil. If it’s dry an inch or so down, it’s hydration time! But hey, let’s not drown them. We’re aiming for moist, not soggy soil.

3. Up the humidity

Did you know indoor humidity can plummet to 30% or even lower in the winter? Misting your plant buddies or setting up a water-filled tray nearby can make them feel like they’re on a tropical vacation. Grouping plants also helps them get chatty and create a mini-humid zone.

4. Avoid temperature extremes

Brrr, drafts are chilly! Keep your plants away from those icy gusts. And hey, don’t cozy them up too close to heaters, radiators, and hot air vents – it’s all about finding that ‘just right’ spot. Sudden temperature changes can harm plants, making them dry or damaged.

5. Pause the fertilizer

During winter, plants slow down and take it easy. They don’t need as much food, so go easy on the feeding. Most indoor plants rest in winter and don’t grow much, so you can give the fertilizer a break. Stop using it in the fall, and when spring rolls around and plants start soaking up more sunlight and growing actively, you can resume fertilizing.

6. Keep foliage clean

Keep your plant’s leaves clean during winter. Wipe away the dust and dirt from their leaves to help them soak up the limited sunlight they get. Use a damp cloth or microfiber gloves for bigger leaves. You can also give your plant a quick shower to clean its leaves easily.

Think of it as a spa day for your plants! Gently clean their leaves—it’ll make them feel refreshed. And if you spot any sad-looking leaves, trim them off to give your plant a nice makeover.

7. Hold off on repotting your houseplants

They love being repotted when they’re in full growth mode, which usually happens during spring and summer. I know it might be tempting to dig into the soil and repot them during the winter, but that can actually shock your plants, especially when they’re dormant or resting. So, try to resist the urge until they’re actively growing again in the warmer seasons.

Keeping our indoor plants smiling in winter isn’t rocket science. With a few tweaks here and there, we can make sure they’re ready to blossom when spring rolls around.

So let’s kick back, snuggle up, and give our green pals that extra bit of love. And hey, if you’ve got any top-secret winter plant hacks, drop ’em in the comments below. Let’s share the plant love!

Till next time, keep those green vibes alive! 🌿✨
